A search has been launched for a man who has gone missing with his dog in Hove, East Sussex.
Emergency services have resumed combing the beachfront for Gareth Jones, 69, as the search enters its second day.
His worried daughter is appealing for the public’s help to find her dad, who was last seen on Saturday afternoon with his brown cockatoo, Connie
Search teams combed Hove seafront for clues as the search for Gareth entered its second day.
He and Connie were last seen on January 16 at around 1pm at fishmonger Fish, in Basin Road South, Portslade.
Sussex Police issued a photo of Gareth wearing the blue puffer coat he had donned before his disappearance.
The force said: “We are still urgently searching for missing Hove man Gareth Jones. When last seen, he was walking his dog and wearing a blue puffer coat as in this photo, grey tracksuit bottoms with white stripes down the legs and a navy beanie hat.”
Police helicopters and lifeboats were used as part of the search and rescue operation on Saturday night.
Emergency services searched into the early hours of the morning but were forced to resume at first light today.
Search teams are currently gathered at the seafront promenade, above Hove Lagoon.
Daughter Rhian Jones took to Facebook overnight to update searchers.
She said: “All eyes and ears and willing helpers much appreciated in getting our dad home safe.”
She told SussexLive: “We’ve got a massive team of volunteers but anyone who knows him anyone who thinks they might have seen where he could have gone or have any of idea of where he is please, please, please call 999.”
A spokesperson for Sussex Police confirmed the search for missing man Gareth Jones resumed on Sunday morning.
In a statement, a spokesman for HM Coastguard said it continues to help Sussex Police in the search for Gareth and Connie.
They said: “HM Coastguard was contacted at 7.30pm yesterday (January 16) by Sussex Police requesting assistance in a search for a missing person.
“Shoreham and Newhaven coastguard rescue teams, Shoreham and Brighton RNLI Lifeboats, the coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Lydd and local vessels in the area all assisted in the search.
“HM Coastguard’s involvement in the search was temporarily suspended in the early hours and resumed at first light.
“Shoreham Coastguard Rescue Team and Shoreham RNLI lifeboat are currently assisting the police.”
A spokesman for Shoreham RNLI added: “Our inshore lifeboat has launched again this morning to continue the search for a man missing off Hove last night.
“Both lifeboats spent several hours searching an extensive area with the coastguard helicopter, Brighton Lifeboat, Shoreham and Newhaven coastguard teams and Sussex Police on Saturday night and into the early hours of Sunday.”
Gareth has been described by Sussex Police as white, approximately 5’ 10”, of medium build and bald.
He is wearing a light blue puffer coat, grey tracksuit bottoms with white stripes down the legs and a navy beanie hat.
His dog is also likely to be wearing a red harness.
